Strawberry picking is a fun, affordable activity to do on a hot summers day in Auckland at one of the many strawberry farms. There is nothing better than filling your bucket with strawberries followed by a delicious real fruit ice cream to finish off.
Living in Auckland, I have visited plenty of strawberry farms during the summer time. All of them are great, but they each have slight differences that make them better for different people.
So I have put together a list of a few of my favourites and what each of them has to offer.
Grab your friends or family and check out all the best strawberry farms in Auckland.
Best Strawberry Farms in Auckland
Good Planet
Riverhead
Picking is now OPEN
Good Planet is the busiest and most popular strawberry farm in Auckland. But that wont surprise you at all once you see this place.
When I say Good Planet has everything, I mean everything. As well as berry picking there is also a train, splash pad, adventure park and a yummy cafe. Of course we can’t forget the delicious real fruit ice-cream. If you haven’t been here before then it certainly is worth checking out.
You do pay an entry fee to pick strawberries here as well as paying for a bucket, but this does allow you to eat as you pick too. There are also raspberries, blackberries, boysenberries and blueberries to pick as well.
Good Planet is one of the busier strawberry farms in Auckland and is great if you want to try a few of the other things out there too. If you just want a chilled out picking experience then you are best to try one of the smaller farms.
Clevedon Strawberries
Clevedon (Monument Road)
Ardmore (Alfriston- Ardmore Road)
Picking is now OPEN
Clevedon Strawberries is the closest strawberry farm to me in Auckland and my go to spot. They actually have two locations in different areas near Clevedon with small fields. I love that Clevedon Strawberries is a bit smaller and there are never too many people there.
Both locations you can pick your own strawberries and get a real fruit ice cream. There are also waffles, coffees and a selection on jams and spreads.
The farm on Monument Road also has a chocolate machine to make chocolate strawberry cups. I get one every time I go and they are absolute heaven!
There are plenty of picnic tables to sit at and enjoy your purchases too. If you are in south or east Auckland the make sure to check out Clevedon Strawberries.
Strawberry Hills
Bombay
Picking is now OPEN
Strawberry Hills is one of the newer strawberry farms in Auckland having opened in 2022. They now have 3 strawberry patches for visitors to pick from and fill your bucket to the brim with berries.
Real fruit ice cream is available along with waffles and other treats including smoothies. They have an awesome play area with lot of picnic tables scattered around to sit while eating your food.
Strawberry Hills also has a waterfall on site. This is on private property and you can only get to it through the property. It is fairly easy to get to being only a 10 minute walk from the main area.
Make sure to pop into Strawberry Hill and check out this cool little spot.
Phil Greig Strawberry Gardens
Kumeu
Picking OPENS Boxing day
Phil Greig Strawberry Gardens is located out west in Kumeu. This place was one of the original real fruit ice cream shops so they know how to make a good one.
Just like the other spots, there are strawberry fields here for you to pick from. Stop in and grab a delicious ice cream after a hot day spent at one of the many beaches out west.
The cafe is also fantastic with a large selection of treats, including ice cream, gelato, smmothies, coffee and waffles. And you can’t forget the strawberries.
With high standards and a passion for producing fresh and juicy strawberries, a trip out to Phil Greig Strawberry Gardens is well worth the effort.
