The Ultimate Guide to the Best Bungy Jumps in New Zealand
Want to bungy jump in New Zealand but don’t know which one to pick?
Whether you want to go big (like, really big) or start with something a bit less intimidating, I’ve got you covered. Let’s break down the best bungy jumps in New Zealand, so you can find the one that’s right for you!
Working in the tourism industry in Queenstown, I’ve been lucky enough to tick a few of these off my bucket list, and each jump has its own special flavour. Some are perfect for first-timers wanting to ease in (or push themselves out of their comfort zone), while others are designed to absolutely blow your mind. No matter your style, there’s a bungy jump in New Zealand with your name on it.
So, whether you’re here to conquer your fears or just want the ultimate thrill, let’s dive into the best bungy spots across New Zealand, and help you decide which one to tackle first!

1. Kawarau Bridge Bungy (Queenstown)
If you want to say you jumped where it all began, Kawarau Bridge is the place. This is the OG bungy spot, where AJ Hackett kicked off the whole commercial bungy craze back in 1988.
The jump is 43 metres over the stunning Kawarau River, and if you’re feeling brave, you can even choose to get dunked in the water (this was my favourite part)!
The Kawarau was the second bungy jump I ever did and probably my favourite bungy experience in New Zealand. I wanted a water dunk and did I get it. The whole top half of my body was in the river and it made an epic photo.
Highlights:
- The first-ever commercial bungy site in the world (bragging rights, anyone?)
- Tandem jumps available if you want to freak out with a buddy
- Incredible river views
Price: NZD $320 per person (students and kids $280)
Good to know: Spectators can watch for free, and you get a free T-shirt to show off your bravery.

2. Nevis Bungy Jump (Queenstown)
Okay, if you’re serious about adrenaline, the Nevis Bungy is calling your name. At a whopping 134 metres, it’s the highest bungy in New Zealand.
The jump pod is suspended over a dramatic gorge, and the free fall lasts a stomach-dropping 8.5 seconds.
I loved doing this bungy, it honestly felt like the fall was never going to end. If you have done a bungy jump before then I would say give this one a go. It just has that extra adrenalin boost you don’t get as much of in the smaller jumps.
Highlights:
- The tallest bungy in NZ—ultimate bragging rights
- Epic 4WD adventure to the jump site
- Insane free fall experience
Price: NZD $395 per person (students $355)
Good to know: It’s a bit of a trek to get there (45 minutes from Queenstown) and you have to go in the bus, but the experience is 100% worth it. Wear comfy clothes and prepare to scream.

3. Auckland Harbour Bridge Bungy(Auckland)
City vibes with an adrenaline twist! This 40-metre bungy lets you leap off Auckland’s iconic Harbour Bridge with epic views of the city and the Waitematā Harbour. Plus, you get to do a bridge walk before you jump.
This is by far one of the most adventure filled things I have done in Auckland. I even opted for the ocean touch, so I felt the cool splash of the water before bouncing back up. If you’re chasing a thrill, this is definitely one to tick off the bucket list!
Highlights:
- Urban jump with stunning city and ocean views
- Water touches available if you want to cool off
- Small group sizes, so it feels more personal
Price: NZD $260 per person (students and kids $220)
Good to know: This one’s super accessible if you’re already in Auckland. You also get a free bridge walk and plenty of chances to capture epic photos.

4. Taupō Bungy (Taupō)
Jumping over crystal-clear water? Yes, please. The Taupō Bungy sits 47 metres above the Waikato River, and it’s known for its scenic vibes. You can choose to stay dry or take a dip, and there’s even a tandem option.
The view from the platform is stunning, with the crystal-clear river below and lush greenery all around, but the real thrill kicks in the moment you touch that water.
Highlights:
- Beautiful riverside location
- Choose between solo or tandem jumps
- Water-touch options for the bold
Price: NZD $275 per person (students and kids $235)
Good to know: It’s just a short drive from Taupō town center. They also offer a swing if you want more thrills after your jump.

5. The Ledge Bungy Jump (Queenstown)
Unfortunately the Ledge Bungy is currently NOT OPEN.
This one’s for the creative jumpers! Perched 400 metres above Queenstown, The Ledge Bungy is a 47-metre jump with a twist—you can freestyle your jump. Flip, spin, or dive—it’s your call.
This was my first ever bungy jump and such a fun experience.
Highlights:
- Freestyle jumping—channel your inner stuntperson
- Unreal views of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu
- Night jumps available for extra thrill
Price: Currently not available
Good to know: The Skyline Gondola ride to the top isn’t included but is totally worth it for the views alone. Or you can hike up to the top.

6. Hanmer Springs Bungy (Hanmer Springs)
If you’re heading to the South Island’s thermal paradise, why not throw in a bungy jump while you’re there? The Hanmer Springs Bungy is a 35-metre leap off a historic bridge over the Waiau River.
It’s a bit smaller than some of the other jumps, but the alpine scenery makes it super special. They also have a tandem option so you can do the jump with a friend or family member.
Highlights:
- Scenic alpine views over the Waiau River
- Perfect for first-timers (smaller jump, big thrill)
- Easy access if you’re already soaking in Hanmer Springs’ hot pools
Price: NZD $220 per person (or $400 for both jumpers doing a tandem)
Good to know: It’s one of the more affordable bungy options and is a great add-on if you’re already in Hanmer Springs for a relaxing getaway.

Tips for First-Time Bungy Jumpers
- Don’t overthink it. The longer you hesitate, the harder it is. Trust the pros, they know what they’re doing.
- Wear comfy clothes. Nothing too loose or too tight. Sneakers are a safe bet.
- Bring moral support. Friends are great for pre-jump hype and post-jump high-fives.
- Capture the moment. Most bungy spots offer video/photo packages, totally worth it.
Final Thoughts – New Zealand Bungy Jumps
Whether you’re after a quick thrill or the ultimate adrenaline rush, New Zealand is the best place in the world to do a bungy jump.
My personal favourite? The Kawarau Bridge Bungy, there’s nothing like that feeling of free-falling over the river and that water touch. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of these spots.
So, what do you say? Ready to take the leap?
